Statement of Faith

The CCSA, as a Christian faith-based organization, we believe in the following:

  1. We believe that the Bible is the divinely inspired and infallible Word of God and is authoritative in matters of Christian belief and conduct.
  2. We believe that there is but one living and true God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe that Jesus Christ is both fully Divine and fully Human.
  4. We believe that humans were created in the image of God, that we sinned, and in consequence incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death (separation from God).
  5. We believe that the death of Jesus Christ on the cross is sufficient for the atonement of all of humankind sins.
  6. We believe that God in His mercy and grace saves all who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ, justifying them through faith in the Saviour and them new life by the Holy Spirit.
  7. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and of the unjust, and in the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and the eternal punishment of the lost.

Team Name Guidelines

While CCSA respects the right of each team to choose a team name that best reflects the team's objectives and character, we ask that the following guidelines be adhered to:

  1. Team names should glorify God
  2. Acronyms or names that do not clearly or obviously relate to Biblical teachings should nevertheless have a meaning that is consistent with the mission of the CCSA. The league may ask team leadership to elaborate upon the meaning behind the team's name.
  3. Care should be taken to ensure that team names do not have secondary meanings that may be misinterpreted or misconstrued in a manner that is hurtful or inconsistent with Biblical teachings.
  4. Team names must be approved by the pastoral advisor to that team.

The league reserves the right to reject names that are clearly inconsistent with the mission of the CCSA. The league will contact teams if it feels that a team name is problematic. In general, the league will not reject any name that was used by that team in the prior season.

Duplicate Team Names

With the growing number of teams in the league, we are concerned about the number of confusingly similar or identical team names and consequently we are hoping to eliminate future duplication of team names. Teams are not allowed to register a team name that has the same "root" as any other team in the league.

EXAMPLES: A team will not be allowed to register "Christians Jr." if the name "Christians" has already been used by any other team in either the junior or senior division. Similarly, a team will not be allowed to register "Christians II" if "Christians" or "Christians I" has already been registered.

EXCEPTION: Teams are allowed to register a team name if that same name was used by that team in the immediately prior season. Teams using the same names as used in the immediately prior season will always have priority over any new team that chooses to register the same name.

Message from League Leadership

Greetings Team Governors, Coaches, and players,

2022 was a momentous year for CCSA. After losing two years of regular seasons due to the pandemic, we welcomed back churches, teams and players to CCSA’s 40th season. As the world continues to recover from COVID-19, we hope that participants, old and new, will join our 41st season as we rebuild connections, remind ourselves of the purpose of our league, and review expectations of participation.

Looking back at our 2022 season, it was apparent that our lost seasons had a significant impact on our league. The CCSA was filled with new players and first-time coaches, governors, and umpires. Churches had employed new supervising pastors and new church leadership to support softball ministries and teams. Parents who had never been exposed to the CCSA ministry before were attending games to cheer on their children, playing for the first time. In light of this, our 2023 theme is a reminder that in all things, we are to be Imitators of God (Ephesians 5:1-2) and examples of His character (1 Timothy 4:12), especially in our actions and behaviour as league participants in any role.

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
Ephesians 5: 1-2 NLT
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
1 Timothy 4:12

We encourage everyone to take some time to reflect on what this means specifically for you in whatever role you will play in the upcoming season. Some questions that you may ask include: As coaches, how do we instill principles in our players to help them play softball with good sportsmanship and spirit? How do we ensure that serving the league as umpires, we are adequately preparing ourselves and showing responsibility for our assigned tasks? As governors, how do we inspire and support our team members and provide accountability to our leadership group? As parents, how can we best role model for our children when we support and cheer them on at games? As players, what is my role in creating a positive and supportive team environment? As supervisor pastors and youth leaders, how are we mentoring and supporting our softball leadership groups?

As a league run by volunteers, we all have ownership in this league and it is all of our responsibilities to ensure that the league can operate year after year to create positive environments for which pockets of community can flourish. So, as participants, you are not merely “helping” the league when you volunteer – you are in fact taking ownership and responsibility of our community. As you do so, it is our prayer and hope that each person participating in the CCSA in 2023 would grow in faith to become Imitators of God.

In His service,
CCSA Executives
